Urban Bee Education showcases the amazing world of pollinators in your own school’s backyard. Tailored to your curriculum needs Students will explore the importance of pollinators as an integral part of our food system, and how these amazing little creatures form a fundamental component of our food web.
Mapped to the Australian Curriculum V9 and your needs, Students may discover;
The biology of European and Native bees
Lean about some of the 1700+ Native bee species found in Australia
How and why bees pollinate our food, and their role in our food web
Discuss challenges effecting bees such as the Varroa mite and pesticides
Learn how to care for Australian Native Stingless beehives
Discover why household lawn chemicals are harming our bees
How and what to plant for a pollinator friendly garden
How to create habitat in your backyard to support our pollinators
Students will then get their hands dirty… and sticky with some hands on activities
View inside a real stingless native bee hive, identifying the brood, honey and pollen stores and maybe even spot the Queen!
Creating pollinator friendly seedballs to spread around the school or local community to improve floral resources for our bees and butterflies
Taste honeycomb cut straight from the frame
Option to create native solitary bee hotels to be used around the school to improve habitat
Option to Cold press their own take home jar of honey
Option to roll their own beeswax candle
Option to make their own beeswax lipbalm
Learning outcomes - Students will have a deeper understanding of how bees play an integral part of our food web. Challenges our bees and pollinators face with the use of chemicals and loss of habitat. The habitat requirements of different native bee species and how to restore local habitats.

Pollinator Conservation through Environmental Education
Experience - The Team at Urban Bee Education has had over 15 years experience working in schools and designing tailored educational programs for learning diverse students. Talis, our Head of Educational Design spent many years leading the Diverse Learning unit at a large p-12 school in Brisbane. Steph, our Lead Educator, has been delivering our flagship Bees in Schools program for over 5 Years. Her passion for bees is second to none and continues to inspire the young and young at heart through her Brisbane Bee Education programs. Aly, our Bee Educator, runs her own successful regenerative honey label Norma May Honey, and is extremely knowledgeable in all things bees and pollinators.
Risk Assessments and Safety - Safety is paramount for Urban Bee Education, luckily Talis has a Masters Degree in Health and Safety. We can supply you with all necessary risk assessments your school or organisation may need.
Urban Bee Team Qualifications- Masters OHSE, Grad Dip Research, Diploma Disability, Diploma Community Service, Diploma WHS, Cert 4 Training and Assessing, Valid Blue Cards
