Bee Education - Interactive Hands On Activities
Education Incursion Interactive Hands On Activities
Hybrid Solitary Bee Hotels ππ‘
Our Hybrid Solitary Bee Hotels give schools and early learning centres a hands-on way to
support Australian native bees while exploring STEM in action. These innovative bee hotels
provide safe nesting habitats for a variety of native solitary bees, including blue-banded bees,
resin bees, fire-tail resin bees, and leaf-cutter bees.
Why students love them:
Tailored nesting materials: A clay and sand mix for blue-banded bees, plus tubes for tube-loving species
Hands-on learning: Build and install bee hotels, observe bee behaviour, and explore pollination
STEM & curriculum links: Activities support science, design & technologies, and sustainability in the Australian Curriculum
Conservation in action: Students contribute to creating real habitat for native pollinators
By using Hybrid Solitary Bee Hotels, schools can engage students with real-world STEM, conservation, and Australian native bees, all while having fun and making a positive impact on local ecosystems.
π Book a workshop today and let your students explore, build, and care for native bee habitats!
Beeswax Lip Balm Activity ππ

Perfect for schools, early learning centres, and group programs, this activity combines STEM learning, creativity, and environmental education.
This activity links directly to the Australian Curriculum, supporting STEM, design & technologies, and sustainability learning outcomes, while giving students a fun, hands-on experience with real bee products.
What students learn and do:
Explore how bees make beeswax and why itβs important for the hive
Discover practical uses of beeswax in candles, cosmetics, and crafts
π Include the Beeswax Lip Balm Activity in your incursion and let students learn, create, and explore the world of bees and beeswax!
Pollinator Friendly Seed Balls πΈπ
As part of our bee education incursions, students get hands-on with making seed balls to support Australian native bees. This engaging activity teaches children about native bee habitats, plant life cycles, and how flowers help all pollinators thrive.
What students learn and do:
Discover how flowers support Australian native bees and their ecosystems
Make seed balls using flower seeds, clay, and coco peat
Learn about planting, germination, and creating pollinator-friendly habitats
Connect hands-on activities to STEM concepts like measurement, materials, and sustainability
This activity links directly to the Australian Curriculum, supporting science, design & technologies, and sustainability outcomes, while encouraging students to take action to support native bees in their school or local environment.
π Include the Australian Native Bee Seed Ball Activity in your incursion and let students learn, create, and help native bees thrive!
Beeswax Candle Rolling π―οΈπ
Bring the magic of bees to life with our Beeswax Candle Rolling activity! Part of our bee education incursions, this hands-on workshop lets students explore beeswax, its properties, and practical uses while creating their very own candle. Perfect for schools, early learning centres, and group programs, it combines STEM learning, creativity, and environmental awareness.
What students learn and do:
Explore how bees produce beeswax and why itβs important in the hive
Roll sheets of pure beeswax to make individual candles
Discover practical uses of beeswax in candles, cosmetics, and crafts
This activity links directly to the Australian Curriculum, supporting STEM learning, design & technologies, and sustainability outcomes, while providing a fun, hands-on, and memorable experience with real bee products.

Mini Solitary Bee Hotels ππ‘
Give students a hands-on experience in supporting Australian native solitary bees with our Mini Solitary Bee Hotels! Part of our bee education incursions, this activity teaches children about bee habitats, pollination, and biodiversity while letting them build their own miniature bee homes.
What students learn and do:
Discover how solitary bees nest and their role in pollination
Build mini bee hotels using natural materials tailored for tube-loving species like resin bees, leaf-cutter bees, and fire-tail resin bees
π Include the Mini Solitary Bee Hotels activity in your incursion and let students create habitats and learn about native bees firsthand!
The STEM Discovery Table ππ¬π±
Our STEM Discovery Table is designed for schools and early learning centres, giving students the chance to connect classroom learning with the real world of bees and pollinators.
Students can:
Use a microscope to study bees, pollen grains, and the varroa mite
Test honey with a refractometer to measure moisture content
Observe live Australian native bees in a safe hive
Taste honey and compare flavours
Build bee hotels for solitary bees, roll beeswax candles, and make seed balls (optional activities at additional cost)
The Discovery Table links directly to the Australian Curriculum, supporting outcomes in:
Science: biological sciences, life cycles, ecosystems, classification, sustainability
Mathematics: measurement, data collection, comparing results
Design & Technologies: creating bee hotels, applying sustainable design
Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF): exploring the natural world, sensory learning, building curiosity
π Book the STEM Discovery Table for your school or centre and give your students a hands-on experience thatβs curriculum-aligned, engaging, and unforgettable.
